There is much to be concerned about. England is on track for record heat-related deaths this summer. By the beginning of August, half of England had entered an 'exceptionally serious' drought. Wildfires have torn through the UK and Europe.
The climate is changing and we have to be ready.
When we face up to the truth about the climate emergency, it’s natural that it will be overwhelming and distressing. Climate anxiety is a real thing for young and old. The future is bleak. A fear of what the future will look like for their grandchildren was one of the motivating factors for Andy and Helen Redfern when founding Green Heart Collective. For them, the remedy for their climate anxiety is joining with others to create a resilient community ready to take meaningful action.
The People's Emergency Briefing
In November 2025, the National Emergency Briefing brought together leading experts to present the latest evidence on the climate and nature crisis to politicians and other influential people in Westminster. Now this vital message is spreading to ordinary people across the UK, bringing together people from across local communities to hear the evidence and discuss how to respond. The People's Emergency Briefing film is a summary of the experts' reports and is being shown in community venues across the UK. To find your nearest showing, click here.
We showed this film in Gateshead town centre on Wednesday 1st July 2026. We are planning another showing of this film in Gateshead in September. Do keep an eye on our upcoming events for the exact date and venue.
Facing Our Future
In a desire to create an inclusive and welcoming space to hold a gentle conversation about the tough realities of the world right now, Green Heart Collective is hosting a monthly gathering so that together, we can:
- explore an antidote for the doom and gloom in the news day in, day out
- prepare mentally and physically for what is to come
- discover if and how change is possible
Cost: £3 to cover refreshments and venue

June 2026: Introductory session with a look at the Government's Get Prepared for Emergencies Campaign
July 2026: The impact of a changing climate on food and creative thinking about how to prepare for food shortages
18 August 2026 from 7-9pm (venue to be confirmed): All things health
