Gateshead Great Big Green Week 2025: Swapping Together for Good
Great Big Green Week is back, and we're looking forward to the fourth year of Gateshead's very own week of events.
Running from 7 June - 15 June, there's so much to get involved in and everyone is welcome.
Gateshead Great Big Green Week 2025
The Theme
This year, Great Big Green Week's theme is to Swap Together for Good. In short this means making lots of different kinds of swaps in your everyday life to benefit people and planet. Some of these swaps are big, others much smaller but they all crucially make a difference.
You could for example, swap dairy milk to a plant-based milk for your morning cuppa. Or you could swap the commute in the car for a bike ride.
One of our favourite swaps is buying preloved clothing rather than brand new. Here are ten great reasons why you should buy preloved.
How You Can Get Involved - Gateshead
If you live in the North East of England (see below if you don't), we have some excellent events coming up this week. We'd love to see you, and these are all super friendly events for anyone over 14 to take part in.
Here's how the week looks!

Why Swap Together for Good
Using the Climate Fresk tool, this informal, interactive educational workshop will explore climate science, consider pathways of cause and effect and ideas for constructive actions. As an NHS doctor, facilitator Ellen Tullo recognises that healthcare practitioners have a role in education about climate change and its risks to health. £5 waged/£3 unwaged. Includes refreshments.

Thursday 12 June
Salad Swap: How to Grow your Own Salad Bag at Green Heart
As part of Great Big Green Week, join us for an action-packed evening looking at how to grow your own mixed salad. 🥗
No need for supermarkets, chemicals or plastic bags, and at a fraction of the cost! Starting at the Green Heart Collective, we will go on a short walk around central Gateshead.
We will be looking at plants growing wild and their edible uses, and how we can work with them in our own spaces to grow and gather food for free. We will return to learn more about how our salad is grown, and how we can take back control, starting by growing our own salad, on a windowsill, balcony, back yard or garden.
You will get the chance to pot on your own easy to grow salad plants to take home, and learn how to take care of them. This is a donation based event, with the opportunity to purchase food provided by Green Heart.
Open to anyone 13+ (but under 16s would need to be accompanied by an adult). No prior experience is needed.
5.30pm - 8.30pm
Book a free ticket here.
Sun 15 June
Railway Quarter Litter Pick
11am - 1pm at Microbus.
